Our firm combines over 25 years of trial consulting experience with current social science theory to develop winning case strategies, effective witness preparation techniques, valuable pre-trial research, and game changing jury selection methods. We have been involved in over 2000 cases, ranging from multi-million-dollar civil litigation to high stakes criminal trials. Chopra Litigation Consulting provides clients with assistance in litigation and settlement strategy, storytelling and theme development, damages valuation, opening statements and closing arguments, focus group and trial simulation research—both in person and utilizing Virtual Courtroom technology, witness preparation, and jury selection. Our practice specialties include plaintiff side personal injury, product liability, employment and civil rights litigation, class actions, commercial litigation, and criminal defense.

FOUNDER & SENIOR LITIGATION CONSULTANT

Sonia has a Ph.D. in Psychology and Law from Simon Fraser University and a M.A. in Litigation Science from the University of Kansas.  She is the founder of Chopra Litigation Consulting and cofounder of the research platform Virtual Courtroom.  Dr. Chopra has over 28 years of experience in the field and has been involved in over 2000 trials.  She is highly sought out by plaintiff attorneys nationwide for her innovative approach to jury selection, her keen ability to identify and rectify case weaknesses, record setting damage awards and her frank advice.  She has been part of numerous groundbreaking trial teams including the first Roundup cases ever tried and the JUUL litigation.  Dr. Chopra is proud to count many of the Top Plaintiffs Firms in California as her clients.

Emma has a J.D. from the University of Denver and a B.A. in Psychology, Political Science, and English from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. A dedicated lifelong learner, she is passionate about exploring the intersection of law and psychology. With an intuitive nature and genuine love for connecting with people, Emma creates a supportive environment that encourages mock jurors to openly share their thoughts and experiences on sensitive topics. She is committed to amplifying all voices in legal discussions and excels at simplifying complex issues to ensure clarity and understanding across diverse audiences.

Kelsie has a J.D. from the University of San Diego School of Law.  A former teacher, Kelsie is particularly adept at conducting focus groups and mock trials and intuiting the why behind what jurors are expressing.  She possesses a strong sense of emotional intelligence and strives to creating a safe space where people from all backgrounds & beliefs feel comfortable to freely share their ideas. She is also skilled in condensing complex topics into digestible layman terms that are understandable for any audience.

Julia holds a B.A. in Neuroscience from Pitzer College and is pursuing a M.A. in Computer Science at Tufts University. As our lead data analyst and social media researcher, Julia keeps us current on cutting edge data analytic approaches to mock trial research and jury selection.  With her unique blend of skills, Julia harnesses data-driven insights to help legal teams understand juror behavior and preferences, ensuring informed and strategic selections. Her commitment to combining psychological principles with advanced technology makes her an integral part of our team.

RESEARCH ASSISTANT

Lynnzie is a current graduate student in the Forensic Psychology program at George Washington University.  She provides logistical support for focus group and mock trial research, conducts social media searches for jury selection and assists in questionnaire design and data analysis.  Lynnzie brings the Gen Z perspective during client meetings and theme development sessions which is particularly insightful in emerging, high-tech litigation and cases with social significance.

Karen Jo Koonan

August 7, 1945 – June 5, 2023

Karen Jo cofounded Chopra Koonan Litigation Consulting with Sonia in 2016.  Karen Jo not only had a decades long career as one of the preeminent plaintiff side and criminal defense consultants in the country, she was also a civil rights activist and hero.  Sonia and Karen Jo met at National Jury Project in 2002 where the two quickly formed a mentor / mentee relationship that developed into a deep friendship based on shared commitment to doing good work for good people.  Karen Jo’s approach to storytelling, theme development, witness preparation, and most importantly, straight talk, helped shape Sonia into the consultant she is today, for which she is eternally grateful.  Please read more about Karen Jo’s incredible life here.
